Zagreb, Croatia

Zagreb has been announced Europe’s third-best capital city destination to visit as a tourist, just behind Amsterdam and Rome.

new research carried out by VisaGuide.World, has listed Zagreb as the third best capital city in Europe to travel to for tourism purposes in 2023, according to the factors that tourists value most when picking out a place to visit.

Amongst the factors that position Zagreb so high is this list are the friendliness of Croatians, the cheap average budget for staying one week in the city, its safety, and the local’s good English skills, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Zagreb beats most capitals when it comes to budget-friendly trips. The Western Balkan country of Croatia is amongst the cheapest in Europe, and only recently, it has also joined the Eurozone, which means the official currency there now is the Euro,” the research notes adding that foreigners can spend a week in this city with a budget between €250 and €320.

In average, one can spend a week in Zagreb with only €285, what makes it the second cheapest capital in this list, just behind Czech Republic’s Prague where one can stay for a week with an average budget of €275.

Language is not a problem in Zagreb either, as Croatia performs even better in this regard, listed 11th in the world,” the research says, highlighting the fact that out of the capitals that have made it to the top ten, only the Dutch are better at speaking English than the Croats.

Moreover, Zagreb also performs well when it comes to safety, which means it has very low crime rates, and low chances of terrorist activities, internal conflicts, political instability, natural disasters, etc.

The city is well known for its rich history, art and architecture. It is home to around a million people, and in 2021 alone, it welcomed 634 million tourists.

Visa Guide’s research has been based on a survey carried out first, which included 1200 respondents from 32 different countries. The latter were asked what they value more when travelling throughout Europe, and the majority of them agree that feeling welcomed in their destination, is the number one thing they want during their trip.

Next, they also want to be able to communicate with the locals, feel safe while there, and be able to enjoy their visit without having to spend a ton of money.
