Kuwait authorities ban expats from changing work permit details

The Kuwait Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) has introduced a fresh regulation with the goal of curbing fraudulent activities associated with expatriate work permits.

As per the announcement from PAM, modifications to expatriate work permit details, such as name, date of birth, and nationality, will now require adherence to a designated procedure.

In accordance with this updated guideline, in the event an employer intends to alter an expatriate employee’s name, date of birth, or nationality, they must initiate the visa cancellation process within a two-week window following the issuance of the work permit.

This application should be submitted through the Sahel service. Once the visa is cancelled, the employer must then visit the Ministry of Interior to amend the worker’s data and apply for a new permit.

PAM has stated that this approach is the result of close collaboration between PAM and the Ministry of Interior.
Its primary purpose is to prevent any manipulations or fraudulent activities that may have occurred in the past. This measure is particularly aimed at thwarting attempts to bring in workers of nationalities whose recruitment permits have been suspended for an extended period.

New processes

In addition to this regulatory change, PAM has introduced a new electronic service to streamline the process of canceling entry visas for expat workers.

Employers can now access PAM’s electronic forms portal, select the expat worker icon, and choose the ‘Cancel Work Visa’ option.
