Immigrants who become citizens of Canada are allowed to sponsor their parents and grandparents to come and stay with them. One can sponsor their parents or grandparents to become permanent residents of Canada under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) of the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is also known as the Super Visa. For Canadian citizens and permanent residents who wish to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada, the Super Visa is a popular choice. Because the Super Visa is available year-round and does not involve a lottery, it is a great option for those looking for additional assurance when sponsoring their parent or grandparent.
In a recent update, IRCC has informed that the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) application deadline for the 2023 intake is December 22, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
IRCC has sent out invitations to apply to potential sponsors who submitted sponsorship forms in 2020. Those who have received an invitation, need to submit their PGP application electronically through the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal by the deadline of December 22.
Under the Parents and Grandparents program, IRCC will accept up to 15,000 complete applications this year and has mailed invites to apply to 24,200 interested possible sponsors between October 10 and October 23, 2023.
One can sponsor their parents and grandparents to become permanent residents of Canada if they had submitted the interest to sponsor form in 2020 and are invited to apply for the 2023 intake.
A multiple-entry temporary resident visa (TRV) with a maximum 10-year validity period is known as the Super Visa. For every entry, a stay of five years is permitted. A visitor visa is not the same as a super visa. Parents and grandparents who meet the requirements can visit family in Canada for up to five years at a time with a super visa.
