This move is part of an extensive strategy to attract international visitors, initiated after the country reopened its borders in early 2023 following the ease of pandemic restrictions.

Five Key Visa Changes

As reported by Bloomberg, China’s state broadcaster revealed that the National Immigration Administration has outlined five major changes to enhance the visa application process:

1. Re-entry Visa Applications

Foreigners with valid Chinese visas can now apply for re-entry without needing to leave the country. This simplifies business trips and short-term stays.

2. Simplified Applications

Visa application requirements will be streamlined, reducing paperwork and processing times. This benefits all travellers, from students to entrepreneurs.

3. Faster Visas for Urgent Needs

Business travellers and others facing urgent travel needs can now apply for port visas upon arrival at designated airports. This eliminates delays and enhances flexibility.

4. Easy Visa Extensions and Replacements

Travellers to China can now extend or replace visas at police stations, eliminating the need for consulate visits. This offers greater convenience and flexibility.

5. Exemption from Border Inspection for Transit Passengers

Nine major airports, including Beijing Capital and Shanghai Pudong, will offer visa-free transit and exemption from border inspection for passengers with connecting flights within 24 hours. This enhances air travel efficiency and fosters international connections.
