As of the first three months of 2023, the Irish Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment granted 40 percent of work permits to Indian nationals.
According to the report, as many as 7264 work permits were issued to third-country citizens and among them, 2894 were issued to Indian nationals from the beginning of January to March 31.
January alone saw a good number of work permits. As many as 2525 work permits were issued in the month of January and out of which almost half of them — 1,059 — went to Indian nationals.
India was the top applicant in the first quarter of 2023 for permits, followed by Brazil and the Philippines with 734 and 663 permits issued to its citizens, while India was also the top applicant for rejected applications, with 113 rejections, followed by Brazil with 80 rejections.
With a population of five million, Ireland, which faces labour shortage, eyes foreign workers to fill up gaps in crucial sectors.
The numbers indicated that a total of 165 applications were withdrawn before a decision was made about them.
As a result of the labour shortage, the largest number of visas were issued to sectors related to health and social work (2,428), followed by information & communication (1,095).
EEA countries (the EU, plus Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein), Switzerland, and the UK all require permission for residents and workers to reside in Ireland.

Saudi Arabia has also introduced a new three-month temporary work visa service that allows companies to issue temporary work visas that allow holders to work for three months from the date of entry.
Applicants for this visa do not need a residence permit or a work permit and the visa can also be extended but the application should be submitted by the employer or authorized representative of Qiwa. Organizations seeking temporary work visas must be active and have a valid commercial registration, except in cases where no commercial registration is required.
Last week, as many as three provinces (Ontario, British Columbia and Manitoba) held draws under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). This is the second draw after April 11.
Through PNP anyone can become a permanent resident status but after getting through the PNP, the aspirant must apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
