Indian students in America can now avail internship opportunities from a highly reliable and authentic source. A new website has been introduced by the Indian Consulate in New York to help Indian students locate internships in the United States. As part of the initiative to support Indian students in its jurisdiction, the Indian Consulate in New York has developed this platform for Indian Students to find internship opportunities at companies in the USA.
Several Indian and American companies and organizations have agreed to consider deserving Indian students for internship opportunities. Indian Consulate in New York advises students to apply directly to the companies from the portal as the Consulate has no role in selection for internship nor is it responsible for the same.
Google, TCS, Goldman Sachs, NVIDIA, Stripe, Lyft, GAVS Technology are some of the companies hiring interns on the portal.
Jobs in America are getting hard to find for fresh graduates and H-1B visa holders. There are fewer new job openings in the US. In May, job openings (8.1 million) decreased by 1.2 million compared to the previous year. Over the year, hires were down by 415,000. US unemployment rate hit a 2-1/2-year high of 4.1%, pointing to a slackening labor market. Further, in the first two months of 2024, 193 companies have laid off nearly 50,000 employees, affecting millions of employees at all levels, including tech corporations and start-ups.
India’s number of students studying in the US reached an all-time high of 268,923 in 2023, a 36% rise from the previous year.
According to the Oxford International Student Global Mobility Index report, a significant 69 percent of Indian students prefer the US over the UK for studying abroad.
